Flexible nasal endoscopy may be used if you experience difficulty with swallowing, reflux changes or issues with your voice. This is an investigative procedure that can be used to check for lumps or tumours in the neck, throat and vocal cords.
If an individual is experiencing problems with breathing through the nose or sinus issues, flexible nasal endoscopy can assess the internal nasal anatomy. This can provide some very useful information.

The procedure
Pre-operative assessment
You will be asked to attend a pre-operative assessment before your surgery where you’ll be asked questions about your general health, medical history and home circumstances. You may have a pregnancy test if you are of child bearing age.
Advise medical staff if you wear dentures, crowns or prosthetics
Let staff know if you have metal in your body
Wear loose fitting clothes
Bring a dressing gown and slippers
Bring spare undergarments
Follow starvation guidelines set out to you by the surgeon
Wash your hair, apply deodorant and brush your teeth as normal that morning but do not apply hair products after your shower
Do not drink alcohol, smoke tobacco products or vape for 1 week before and 2 weeks after your surgery
If your surgery is performed under general anesthetic you cannot drive, sign legal documents or operate machinery for 24 hours after the surgery
Let your surgeon know if you develop a cough, cold or high temperature a few days before surgery. They’ll advise whether your operation can go ahead. Please do a Covid test on the day if you are feeling unwell or have had contact with someone who is Covid positive
